Lotus complete Silverstone shakedown test

The Lotus team became the second newcomers to take to the track for real as they completed a shakedown at Silverstone, there’s an image of the car here from autosport. Nothing seems to have gone wrong at the test which is ahead of the official launch on Friday.

It’s impressive that the team have got a working car together in such short order – they haven’t been around as long as the other new teams and have beaten two of them to the track. I’m not sure that they would have learnt anything about the car other than that it works given the weather in the UK but then that’s a good start. A few years ago when reliability wasn’t what it is now that would have successful for any team.

The car in its iconic livery will join the F1 circus in Jerez for the third test of the season and see how it stacks up speed wise. That will also be the first oppurtunity for the race drivers to get their hands on the machine with reserve driver Fairuz Fauzy having the honours at Silverstone.

We’ll have to wait until Friday to see the car in full and be sure of the livery that they will be running – which still hasn’t got a major sponsor on it at this point. But I’m sure it won’t change much. It seems I’m looking forward to the third test before the second has even started.
