The surprising speed of Sauber and de la Rosa
This weeks F1 testing has shown that the Sauber C29 is no slouch, I said that they might just pull something out of the bag but I wasn’t expecting that. Sauber firmly planted themselves in second place for all three days.
It wasn’t just Pedro de la Rosa either Kamui Kobayashi kept the car in that place for his run on Tuesday. I wasn’t sure about the de la Rosa signing but it is seeming to show some promise – I’ll still have reservarions come race day but so far so good. Kobayashi seems to be forging himself a reasonable reputation and I’m looking forward to seeing him race this season.
The C29 has had a lot of development with BMW having such a dog for 2009, it seems the same story as Brawn but not quite as extreme. It really does seem that the more time you spend on a car the better it is, I wonder what other team on the grid has done a similar thing, it’s not hard to see with Ferrari topping the times for all three days.
I’m now expecting some good things from Sauber this season, some strong points finishes should be on the cards at least.
