Looking forward to the Australian GP…
The Australian GP is now less than a week away and with all the main teams having had a week to digest what happened in Bahrain what can we expect from the various players? Will the Ferrari’s run away with the race again? Will the Red Bull have and an answer? Will Michael Schumacher be on the pace? Will the McLaren be fast enough to challenge?
It seems that the Australian GP is a much less predictable track though it does seem to show who’ll win the championship as over the last ten years only twice has the winner not gone on to clinch the title. It seems unlikely that the Ferrari will romp away with the victory this time out as the other teams may have the pace here. The McLaren’s rear wing won’t help them too much but any time counts.
Michael Schumacher should be more on the pace here – he’s won the race four times and after Nico Rosberg beat him in Bahrain he’ll be looking to overturn that advantage. Schumacher has had much more time in the car now in race conditions and ran basically at the same pace as Rosberg for the distance in Bahrain. With the gap closing it just remains to end up faster than Rosberg – though Rosberg won’t want that to happen.
The Red Bull car didn’t exactly put on the best show in Melbourne last year though some of that was down to Sebastien Vettel’s frustration – he’ll need to keep that under control and hope that the car performs again to push the Ferraris. Mark Webber will be hoping that the Red Bull is fast and that he can treat the home crowd.
The teams will be much more at home on the familiar Melbourne circuit and the new teams will have had just that bit more running and time in the paddock – it seems the build up may be calmer but hopefully the race is more exciting than Bahrain.
