US F1 out, Stefan GP out – the FIA publish the revised 2010 entry list

The FIA have issued the revised entry list for the 2010 season that confirms neither US F1 or Stefan GP will be at Bahrain. The release basically denies Stefan GP entry as it says

it is not possible for a replacement team to be entered for the championship at this late stage

I guess their dream was good while it lasted. It all comes down to whether they could have raced I guess and the FIA didn’t think they could. It remains to be seen whether Campos Meta under the new title of HRT Cosworth will manage to make the grid as no one has seen the car – it is due to be launched soon though.

Other things worth noting from the list are the lack of a second driver for HRT to partner Bruno Senna and the fact that Campos Meta can rename the team but that BMW Sauber Ferrari are still called BMW Sauber Ferrari, what stopped them changing their name too? There must be something more going on behind the scenes.

So there will be 12 teams and 24 cars in the 2010 grid, not the full set that everyone wanted but if we get that then at least the FIA would have done something. I still think that they could have done more to ensure that the new entrants in F1 actually made it to the grid. They should have set milestones much earlier that the teams had to meet, it would have then been possible to see far earlier on that a team wasn’t going to make it and replace them with a team that could.

With the release saying that they will reopen the process of applying for a slot on the F1 grid for next year, we know that there will be one open slot – will they make another and will the two teams US F1 and Stefan GP keep going in the hope of a place next year?
