Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso makes the long awaited move to Ferrari in 2010. He comes to the team after a very poor 2009 showing and will hope to regain the speed that they were missing last year.
Alonso has had a few frustrating years in F1, he won the 2005/2006 titles at Renault to move to McLaren where he was paired with the unknown rookie Lewis Hamilton and we all know what happened that year. In the end he only lost out on the title by a single point to Kimi Raikkonen. With his relationship with McLaren in tatters after the spygate scandal he fled back to Renault who haven’t really been able to put anything together other than the contraversial singapore victory since. Who blames him for signing for Ferrari so long ago.
Alonso is fast, he’s consistently beaten everyone he’s been paired with apart from Lewis Hamilton who scored the same as him in 2007. He’ll be wanting to continue that trend and Felipe Massa has his work cut out if he’s going to keep Alonso behind him this season. If you want further evidence of what Alonso is worth look at the gaps between him and the other Renault drivers over the last few years, he’s worth a second or so a lap I remember someone saying. If he really is that good at Ferrari and if they can produce the car he is favourite to clinch the championship and get a third title.
