Lucas di Grassi

Lucas di Grassi joins the F1 grid from GP2 where he secured 3rd place in 2009 behind Vitaly Petrov and Nico Hulkenberg – both of whom join him in F1. He also moves from being a Renault test driver to a full race seat at the new Virgin Racing team.

Lucas di Grassi has also tested for Hondas F1 programme, in fact at the same time as another F1 rookie Bruno Senna, di Grassi didn’t quite manage the times that Senna did and so missed out on any chance of the seat that was eventually given to Rubens Barrichello.

Lucas di Grassi has performed well in testing so far with not being too far from the pace of Timo Glock though it’s been hard to tell with the weather. This isn’t the first time that Timo Glock has been in competition with Lucas di Grassi as they fought over the 2007 GP2 championship that Timo Glock went on to win.

It seems that Lucas di Grassi may have the pedigree to make a go of F1 though driving for Virgin is likely to be very different to driving for a front running GP2 team, he have to work harder and get used to the demands of F1 but he’s driving for an exciting new team who might provide him with the car to mix it with some of the other teams later in the season.
