Campos Meta lives, with a takeover and a new boss

The financial worries that Campos Meta has seem to have now disappeared with the takeover from Jose Ramon Carabante, already a shareholder in the original team he has now taken control and appointed Colin Kolles to lead the team. It’s a sad end to Adrian Campos’ desire to enter F1 with his own team.
The whole team now has a lot to do to get it’s untested car to the track for Bahrain and find another driver to partner Bruno Senna. Being competitive is going to be the last thing on their minds at this point as most of the staff must have been keeping an eye on the job market.
Colin Kolles is a strange choice to lead the team, though he does have F1 experience he hasn’t really ever done anything in the sport other than being a rather unpopular face for Midland. Technically he’s had spells at three F1 [...]

Still no word from Campos Meta or US F1, will Stefan GP get to step up?

Silence is all that remains in the garages that should be occupied by Campos Meta and US F1 at Jerez this week, with both teams still as yet to release their cars. It seems that we’ll have to wait until the first GP to see the cars – if we ever get to that is.
Stefan GP has bought the Toyota chassis and secured contracts with Toyota for servicing and consulting and will release their car later this month even if it seems, they won’t get a place on the grid. Without the limited testing rules that wouldn’t apply to them as they aren’t racing they would run a young driver programme to develop the car. However it seems that Bernie wants them on the grid and it’s likely to be at the expense of either Campos Meta or US F1 – I can’t see the FIA just letting Stefan GP [...]

What’s happening at Campos Meta, will they reach Bahrain?

Since the announcement that 4 new teams would be entering F1 there has been rumours circulating around all the new teams but none more so than Campos Meta. They have shown the least to the world and even Bernie has been voicing the rumours.
Over the last few weeks it’s become clear that Adrian Campos hasn’t got the financial support to go racing for a year without new Investment in the team, he says that he doesn’t want to sell a stake but that he wants investment… Now as someone who works for a VC backed company I’m not sure how he’s going to get investment without selling part of the team, that’s how it works isn’t it?
Anyway Adrian Campos has said that he will have the required funding in place on Monday and that the team will line up on the grid in Bahrain – even if that is without [...]

Nick Heidfeld moves to Mercedes reserve role

So without a home for 2010 Nick Heidfeld has given up hope of a race drive for 2010 and taken up the reserve driver role at Mercedes. I guess it is his best hope for a few races with a decent team.
With nowhere to go after Sauber signed Pedro de la Rosa he has settled for the reserve driver role, it’ll mean that he’s testing a good car and that he’s still in the F1 paddock at least but I’m not so sure he wouldn’t have been better off joining one of the new teams to keep himself on the track. I’m sure Campos would have jumped at the chance of having someone of his calibre driving for them. Having said that, they probably wouldn’t have paid him and it’s not like he’d have been competitive. At least he’d be there though.
With rumours circulating that Michael Schumacher doctors were about [...]
