Lotus take off the covers to their 2010 car

Lotus unwrapped the car that will return an iconic name to F1 today, the team has completed a brief shakedown of the car at Silverstone so it works and they are scheduled to join all the other teams for the third test in Jerez next week.
The car looks very business like without some of the more refined aero features that we’ve seen from the other teams, I guess that reflects the limited time that they’ve had to build the car. The classic Livery is back however so it seems.
It’s great that another one of the new teams has actually delivered on building and lanuching a car, I have the same hopes for them as I did for Virgin, just to be on the back of the pack – perhaps even beat them once in a while. That will surely be the aim of Lotus initially anyway.
With Jarno Trulli and Heikki [...]

Virgin launch the CFD car

Today Virgin launched their car online on their website, the CFD only – no windtunnel – designed car will hit the track later in the week and they will become the first new team to put some real miles on the car.
The car designed by Wirth Research was set to be unveiled on the teams website but it seems that release had been delayed for a while and that we all had to wait, not the best start for a team that has relyed on it computational expertise to design the car. Hopefully the systems are engineered by different people.
The car itself looks somewhat smoother than the other cars, and it’s striking red and black colours with more flat surfaces, we’ll have to see what it runs like tomorrow.
With the driving partnership of Timo Glock and Lucas di Grassi they’ll be hoping for some problem free days of running to [...]

Renault with a Russian and new colours

Renault have now launched their car and announced the driver to partner Robert Kubica. Vitaly Petrov will pilot the second Renault for 2010, he makes history as the first Russian to enter F1, no mention of the money he could bring though.
The new Renault doesn’t look as sharp as the McLaren or the Ferrari but the 2005/6 cars didn’t either and look what they did. I love the new colour scheme though it does remind me somewhat of Eddie Jordan’s team. It will look good on track, and if their design team has managed to stay insulated from all the happenings at the team over the past 12 months they might produce something – I guess we’ll have to wait until Bahrain to see if they have managed it.
Vitaly Petrov seems an odd choice as the second driver but I guess they couldn’t have done worse than Romain Grosjean. He [...]

Ferrari – a return to form

For Ferrari 2010 is important, it will show whether the team can lose the key players that were a success and still be a driving force in F1. They will be under immense pressure to deliver at the very least multiple race victories to the tifosi, today they unveil the car that will in all likelihood help them do it.
The driver lineup looks like one of the best on the grid, they have Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso. There may be question marks over how Felipe Massa can come back from injury but I honestly think they are overstated, Felipe Massa wouldn’t be back driving if he wasn’t his best. It will be interesting to see what an influence Michael Schumacher had at Ferrari with regard to Massa and how he copes without this and how he deals with Alonso. Fernando Alonso needs no introduction and has shown over the [...]
