Hispania Racing only just made the start of the season and are rooted to the bottom of the standings. Their car just isn’t fast enough and has never looked like being so. They have swapped drivers around and haven’t had an experienced driver to drive the car. With funding for next year still uncertain and the team never really having got started it seems deals with Williams are the next best thing. If they start next year then they need to start putting in performances that trouble the bottom teams otherwise why bother.
Bruno Senna all of his uncle attitude but I haven’t seen the raw pace or the fire, maybe it’s hidden inside the awful car but he needs to provide something for people to get excited about if he wants to stay in F1, his name will only get him so far.
Karun Chandhok was a nice guy who was [...]

The Turkish GP promised some close racing after qualifying with a McLaren managing to split the Red Bull’s on the grid and the shows in practice but it was the Red Bulls that seemingly had everything in the bag, though the McLarens were by no means done when the Red Bulls got together. It was Lewis Hamilton’s first win of the season as Button continues to pick up solid points as did Mark Webber after the incident which saw him pit for a new front wing and still hold out for third ahead of Michael Schumacher.
The 1-2 for McLaren seemed to mask something between the drivers after the race, Button’s move for the lead 11 laps from the end showed that he’s not going to let Hamilton get away with anything though the somewhat lacklustre defence of that position a few corners later seemed a little odd. I wonder what [...]

With four races down F1 is set to return to it’s european stomping ground, it’s where the teams traditionally all bring big upgrades from the final stages of development and the lessons that they have learnt over the flyaway races. Expect all of the big names to have some improvements that may shake up the pecking order – though that needs little change this year.
Mercedes have the most to gain and Red Bull the most to lose but I’d expect McLaren to come out a little faster, they seem to have the best development of all the teams based on past history and they have a stronger base this year – though perhaps that will mean they have less to work with.
I’d expect to see the biggest changes in the mid-field, Williams will be keen to see some improvements as will Renault and Force India. Sauber need some reliability and [...]

Jenson Button became the first driver in 2010 to win for a second time as he beat Lewis Hamilton home for a McLaren 1-2. Button stayed near the sharp end at the start and then stayed out on slicks when most of the other top drivers pitted for intermediates, this put him out front with Nico Rosberg, as Rosberg started to struggle Button closed up and took the lead he wouldn’t surrender for the rest of the race. As the drivers on inters started to put the times in that would catch the leaders their tyres went and they had to pit again and so those at the front enjoyed about a 50s lead.
With the race order set for a while those who had stopped started to carve their way through the middle order, Lewis Hamilton showed his skill at overtaking during this phase and by the time the second [...]

The Chinese GP has had it’s moments over the past few years but apart from those it hasn’t really produced classic races, this year may be different with so many cars fighting over the top spot and with the track being quite different from the other we’ve had so far we might see a different winner.
The Ferrari’s will want to improve their performance and get back to the front, along with the rest of the teams they will bring upgrades to this circuit so we might see some change in the ordering throughout the field. Red Bull with turn up full of confidence having scored a 1-2 in Malaysia and having won this race last year. The McLarens will arrive hoping that they can get back on terms with the others as they don’t quite seem to have had the pace so far this year. Mercedes will be hoping that [...]

The FIA has dropped it’s appeal against a French court ruling that it’s punishment of Flavio Britore and Pat Symonds formerly of Renault. This whole saga seems to be based around an apology from the pair that means they now acknowledge their part in the scandal following on from the Singapore race fixing.
Their actual punishment now means that they can’t take part in any FIA competition until the end of the 2011 season and any F1 involvement until 2013. Apart from the fact that no F1 of any significance would want to hire these two after what has happened it remains to be seen what 4 years out from the sport would mean for an engineer/manager. Geoff Willis has already been commenting on the state of the HRT Cosworth car that was built by people outside of the paddock so would a four year exile have the same effect [...]

Sebastien Vettel took a flawless victory in the Malaysian heat which he essentially won in the first corner after he managed to squeeze Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg out. Mark Webber almost had him at one point but a sticking right front air gun and a blistering out lap from Vettel put pay to that chance.
With the McLarens and the Ferraris out of position it was only Hamilton who really made any impression on the other drivers as carved his way though the field though ultimately he only finished just ahead of Massa and Button. Alonso also deserves a mention for nursing a downshift problem through the whole race distance before his Ferrari engine expired two laps from the end, he was close to taking Button even with his problems that would have meant the car was unpredictable under breaking and unbalanced in some of the slower turn ins.
Adrian Sutil [...]

Jenson Button gave a masterclass to the other drivers, he was the bravest man on the tyres and his smooth style meant that he could finish the race on the same tyres that that he drove 4/5ths of the race on. While all the other drivers were fighting and struggling on the worn tyres Jenson Button serenely drove on at the front on his way to his first victory at McLaren.
The race itself was a much better show than in Bahrain and it seems clear that it would have been even if there hadn’t been the rain at the start. The track lends itself more to overtaking than Bahrain though Michael Schumacher will probably disagree given the amount of time that he spent behind Jaime Alguersuari.
The Red Bulls suffered from mechanical failure again as Sebastien Vettel had a brake failure on his way to retirement and Mark Webber misjudged a [...]

Mark Webber moved the Red Bull back to the top of the times in third practice to ensure that everyone knows that they are still the car to beat though Alonso didn’t let him get away. Michael Schumacher also finds himself back at the sharp end proper.
The Virgins finally got some running on the board though they are still a second off the times that the Lotus cars are putting in – it seems that all that track time lost is worth something. The HRT cars put in some laps in practice but both cars pulled up during the session so they have some more work to do.
