Button calls the tyres and does it again

Jenson Button became the first driver in 2010 to win for a second time as he beat Lewis Hamilton home for a McLaren 1-2. Button stayed near the sharp end at the start and then stayed out on slicks when most of the other top drivers pitted for intermediates, this put him out front with Nico Rosberg, as Rosberg started to struggle Button closed up and took the lead he wouldn’t surrender for the rest of the race. As the drivers on inters started to put the times in that would catch the leaders their tyres went and they had to pit again and so those at the front enjoyed about a 50s lead.
With the race order set for a while those who had stopped started to carve their way through the middle order, Lewis Hamilton showed his skill at overtaking during this phase and by the time the second [...]

Webber takes pole in Malaysia to keep Red Bull on top in a wet qualifying

Mark Webber stormed to pole on a wet Malaysian circuit, he was one of the few drivers on Inters in the dying minutes of the session and pulled an amazing time out of the bag to take pole away from Nico Rosberg.
The first session saw Ferrari and McLaren both make the same dumb mistake – they stayed in the garage for too long – it rained and they couldn’t make the times (or stay on circuit in Button’s case). Though Button made it though the session technically with his car parked at the side of the circuit he was unable to take part in the next session and so lines up 17th on the grid. Hamilton, Alonso and Massa all failed to make the cut and were eliminated from the session meaning that they line up 19th, 20th and 21st on the grid.
The second session saw the elimination of the [...]

Testing times in Jerez, they really are…

Todays test in Jerez involved all of the current F1 teams along with the first new team to show it’s colours – Virgin Racing. With last weeks test throwing up some surprises we’d expect this weeks one to be even more exciting.
The test didn’t disappoint – apart from the weather – there’s not that much comparison to do between the times as all the cars would have been trying out different setups and tyres to see where the wet/inter cut off is but seeing a Mercedes with Nico Rosberg firmly at the top might be a little ominous. Fernando Alonso would have been disappointed not to be faster and Sauber with Kamui Kobayashi stayed just below the Ferrari it’s just that time that meant fifth place.
McLaren and Jenson Button still don’t seem to be able to get it together with the sixth fastest time but Sebastien Buemi (Toro Rosso) and [...]
