The third day in Jerez, Jaime Alguersuari puts Toro Rosso fastest

The third day of testing at Jerez is now over and the dust on track settled, even with some of the eyes in F1 on the Lotus launch in london the track was no less busy today.
With the action on track coming from Jaime Alguersuari and Toro Rosso who got in a fast lap before the weather turned against the teams later on and BMW Sauber who remain fast taking the second slot behind the Italian team. Virgin suffered again as their parts didn’t reach the circuit in time to get any dry running.
Red Bull improved their times from the other day with Sebastien Vettel at the wheel and so don’t it doesn’t look quite as bad. The big teams of Ferrari and McLaren haven’t made much impression yet on this test but that more than likely means they are focusing on more development and analysis work such as tyre [...]

Lotus complete Silverstone shakedown test

The Lotus team became the second newcomers to take to the track for real as they completed a shakedown at Silverstone, there’s an image of the car here from autosport. Nothing seems to have gone wrong at the test which is ahead of the official launch on Friday.
It’s impressive that the team have got a working car together in such short order – they haven’t been around as long as the other new teams and have beaten two of them to the track. I’m not sure that they would have learnt anything about the car other than that it works given the weather in the UK but then that’s a good start. A few years ago when reliability wasn’t what it is now that would have successful for any team.
The car in its iconic livery will join the F1 circus in Jerez for the third test of the season and [...]

Renault with a Russian and new colours

Renault have now launched their car and announced the driver to partner Robert Kubica. Vitaly Petrov will pilot the second Renault for 2010, he makes history as the first Russian to enter F1, no mention of the money he could bring though.
The new Renault doesn’t look as sharp as the McLaren or the Ferrari but the 2005/6 cars didn’t either and look what they did. I love the new colour scheme though it does remind me somewhat of Eddie Jordan’s team. It will look good on track, and if their design team has managed to stay insulated from all the happenings at the team over the past 12 months they might produce something – I guess we’ll have to wait until Bahrain to see if they have managed it.
Vitaly Petrov seems an odd choice as the second driver but I guess they couldn’t have done worse than Romain Grosjean. He [...]

Ferrari – a return to form

For Ferrari 2010 is important, it will show whether the team can lose the key players that were a success and still be a driving force in F1. They will be under immense pressure to deliver at the very least multiple race victories to the tifosi, today they unveil the car that will in all likelihood help them do it.
The driver lineup looks like one of the best on the grid, they have Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso. There may be question marks over how Felipe Massa can come back from injury but I honestly think they are overstated, Felipe Massa wouldn’t be back driving if he wasn’t his best. It will be interesting to see what an influence Michael Schumacher had at Ferrari with regard to Massa and how he copes without this and how he deals with Alonso. Fernando Alonso needs no introduction and has shown over the [...]
