Amazing Canadian race sees Red Bull knocked off their perch by McLaren

The Canadian GP normally serves up a good race but this year was a special one with non stop action from the first corner until the end. It was the first time that the tyre rules really worked as they were planned to, coupled with the endless capacity that the Gilles Villeneuve track has for incidents and F1 sprang to life.
It was the first race of the year that has started without a Red Bull on pole and with the leading cars split on tyre choice the start looked exciting. It played out that way too with passing in the first few laps. Then by the time that the race had just begun to stabilise the soft tyres started to go off – this was only a few laps into the race. Hamilton and the others on the softer compound pitting to change and the Red Bulls (on the harder [...]

Red Bull look unstoppable in the streets of Monaco

Red Bull provided the text book display of how to go about winning an F1 race, the only thing that they didn’t manage to get right was both cars on the front of the grid. Mark Webber was in a class of his own for the entire race and it seemed that he had plenty of extra pace in the bag if the others started to push him. It seems that the championship this year may very well be between the two Red Bull drivers as their car looks unbeatable.
Fernando Alonso put on a rather impressive display of driving to go from the back of the grid to take 6th place and ensure limit the damage caused by his off in free practice on Saturday although I wonder what he could have done had he started from the front, yes he was helped by the safety cars but then he [...]

Webber saves the best till last in Monaco qualifying

Mark Webber again shone in qualifying, he produced the fastest lap of the weekend so far in the dying seconds of qualifying to take pole position away form Robert Kubica who had looked untouchable out front.
It means that the Red Bull that had looked nowhere this weekend had managed to pull off pole and third in their quest to take the title before anyone catches them. McLaren will be disappointed their performance in qualifying as they didn’t manage to get near the front row of the grid. Jenson Button was complaining of being blocked but it didn’t look like they had the speed anyway.
Mercedes will be happy to see an improved performance from the car and will be hoping that they can put it to good use in the race tomorrow and score some solid points to ensure that they stay ahead of Renault in the championship. Renault themselves have [...]

Looking to Sunday in China

The Chinese GP has had it’s moments over the past few years but apart from those it hasn’t really produced classic races, this year may be different with so many cars fighting over the top spot and with the track being quite different from the other we’ve had so far we might see a different winner.
The Ferrari’s will want to improve their performance and get back to the front, along with the rest of the teams they will bring upgrades to this circuit so we might see some change in the ordering throughout the field. Red Bull with turn up full of confidence having scored a 1-2 in Malaysia and having won this race last year. The McLarens will arrive hoping that they can get back on terms with the others as they don’t quite seem to have had the pace so far this year. Mercedes will be hoping that [...]
