Australia provides an appetizer for the 2011 F1 season

Melbourne took on the task of staging the first GP of the 2011 season and did a pretty good job. Sure it’s a street circuit and doesn’t show up some of the real pace of the cars, and the new DRS systems couldn’t be used to their full potential but it was a good, interesting, and lively start to the year. I’m not sure that Bahrain would have offered the same experience.
So Vettel took his first win of the year and started his title defence in the best way possible, Hamilton showed that he’s not going to let Vettel get away if he can help it and Alonso showed that he is top dog at Ferrari. Button, Webber and Massa all had weekends that they would rather have gone differently but they all scored points which was important last year so they shouldn’t be as downhearted as guys like Kobayahsi [...]

Full year report: Red Bull

Red Bull have had the fastest car all year, I don’t think that there is anyone up and down the pit lane who would challenge that but they have continually failed to capitalize on it. Accidents, failures, strategy they have all played their part – it is a testament to how fast the car is that they won the constructors title. Adrain Newey built them a car that was very quick and there have been a good few races this year where the winner was only ever going to be one of the Red Bulls.
Mark Webber’s year has been one of consistently good performances, he has had a couple of mistakes but in general the he has brought the car home and brought the points along with it. He hasn’t been favoured by the team but I think that helped him to motivate the mid season push that saw him [...]

The drivers title will be decided on Sunday 14th of November

So the F1 circus heads to Abu Dhabi with four men who could win the title and an unbelievable number of mathematical possibilities. Alonso is the only man who can not finish the race and still win – though it’s unlikely that he would. Webber really must win to give himself the best chance to beat Alonso though he really needs the Spaniard to finish fourth or better to deny Vettel the chance of the title and thereby gaining an ally.
Qualifying will pose a unique challenge this weekend too given that a slip up by any of the top three drivers could mean an end to their championship hopes. It seems that Alonso has the advantage of experience in these matters but both Vettel and Webber have shown to be tough contenders this year. With the Red Bull car in such form it seems that the Ferrari man will [...]

The title goes to the wire as Vettel takes the honours in Brazil

With Vettel winning in Brazil the title goes to the next race in Abu Dhabi, the same result would see Alonso lift the crown but surely even Red Bull would switch the drivers so that they take the title, it’s not like Alonso could whinge about that.
It was a good race fro Red Bull, apart from Hulkenberg sitting on pole they had pretty much the perfect weekend, and to top that they came away with the constructors crown. Red Bull deserve the constructors title this year, they clearly have the best car and arguably have had for the last season and a half. Adrian Newey really was worth all of that money.
Webber should be pleased with the weekend, although Vettel can still win the title,  Alonso only has to finish 5th to ensure that Vettel can’t take the crown. With the Ferrari looking everybit as if it is the [...]
