Stefan GP – the team that tried and failed to take US F1’s position on the grid – has had a set back to it’s plans to enter F1. It’s main point was that it had the Toyota car, offices and technical support but now that agreement that was based upon Stefan GP actually gaining an entry has come to an end and the Stefan GP outfit has nothing again.
It seems that this saga will not end – though it does mean that Zoran Stefanovic is determined and that usually gets you what you want in F1. Bernie also still seems behind the outfit saying that it’s not all done and dusted and that we may yet see the team on the grid this year – though they would have to buy US F1’s entry and jump over some pretty big FIA hurdles to pull that one off. If this [...]

With the failure of US F1 and the refusal to admit Stefan GP there is a vacant slot on the grid, to fill that for 2011 the FIA have opened up a new bidding process. If US F1 still has cash left it’ll have go through the whole process again with no guarantee that it will get an entry.
Hopefully the FIA look to cover the problems they had last time around and be a little more transparent about the requirements of any entry – like what engines they have to use, and also to set any teams granted the slot milestones that must be met. They have said that they will be appointing reserves to take up any unfilled positions which is an interesting statement as it’s possible that one or more of the teams racing this year will close it’s doors and would vacate another slot on the grid.

The FIA have issued the revised entry list for the 2010 season that confirms neither US F1 or Stefan GP will be at Bahrain. The release basically denies Stefan GP entry as it says
it is not possible for a replacement team to be entered for the championship at this late stage
I guess their dream was good while it lasted. It all comes down to whether they could have raced I guess and the FIA didn’t think they could. It remains to be seen whether Campos Meta under the new title of HRT Cosworth will manage to make the grid as no one has seen the car – it is due to be launched soon though.
Other things worth noting from the list are the lack of a second driver for HRT to partner Bruno Senna and the fact that Campos Meta can rename the team but that BMW Sauber Ferrari [...]

US F1 have finally held up their hands and said that they’re not going to make Bahrain, they might next year though and so have applied to the FIA to have their entry deferred for a year. What on earth are they playing at? I think that the whole saga should just be put to bed now – you failed.
Why should US F1 get the leeway to have another year to make the grid? I think that it does depend on how the FIA deal with the last slot on the grid, they should give it to Stefan GP if they can make it in time and then give US F1 a backup slot for next year. If the FIA are serious on the number of teams on the grid then they can’t give US F1 a guaranteed slot for next year.
What will happen if they turn down the request? [...]

When it was announced that the FIA would be looking for new teams to bolster the F1 grid I was surprised – isn’t this a club where you have to know Bernie and have had dinner with him a few times plus have filled his pockets with gold before you can fill in the form? But no, they were indeed opening up F1, and they had a lot of applications.
The FIA (and Bernie) should have looked at the applications that were tabled and then thrown away the financially unsound ones and then looked at what was left, there was a lot of talk about due diligence at the time. This process was obviously not through enough, two of the teams that were granted entry have been sold and bought before the new season has even started (Campos Meta and Manor), and a third is rumoured to have mounting financial problems [...]

With the takeover of Campos Meta confirmed and Virgin and Lotus already on track it seems that US F1 are the only team that Stefan GP could replace to make the 2010 grid. With Campos out of the way the rumour mill has started on US F1 it’s finances and it’s potential to make the grid.
Stefan GP have yet to show that they are actually a viable team, their car is yet to run much like Campos Meta and US F1 but Zoran Stefanović has been making big noises about the fact that they are ready and have the car – which to be fair they are testing near the end of the month. That is more than the other two teams have managed yet.
Neither Campos nor US F1 have been very open during the whole build up to the start of the season, with Virgin and Lotus giving [...]

Silence is all that remains in the garages that should be occupied by Campos Meta and US F1 at Jerez this week, with both teams still as yet to release their cars. It seems that we’ll have to wait until the first GP to see the cars – if we ever get to that is.
Stefan GP has bought the Toyota chassis and secured contracts with Toyota for servicing and consulting and will release their car later this month even if it seems, they won’t get a place on the grid. Without the limited testing rules that wouldn’t apply to them as they aren’t racing they would run a young driver programme to develop the car. However it seems that Bernie wants them on the grid and it’s likely to be at the expense of either Campos Meta or US F1 – I can’t see the FIA just letting Stefan GP [...]

Since the announcement that 4 new teams would be entering F1 there has been rumours circulating around all the new teams but none more so than Campos Meta. They have shown the least to the world and even Bernie has been voicing the rumours.
Over the last few weeks it’s become clear that Adrian Campos hasn’t got the financial support to go racing for a year without new Investment in the team, he says that he doesn’t want to sell a stake but that he wants investment… Now as someone who works for a VC backed company I’m not sure how he’s going to get investment without selling part of the team, that’s how it works isn’t it?
Anyway Adrian Campos has said that he will have the required funding in place on Monday and that the team will line up on the grid in Bahrain – even if that is without [...]

Apparently Force India’s parent company have been threatened by the Tax office with dissolution after they have repeated failed to file the company’s accounts.
Their accountants have until the 25th of February to finish them and get them to the tax office to avoid further punishment which could eventually include dissolving the company, how on earth does a company get itself in to this situation, surely you need to know what is going on to function as a organisation? It sounds like someone has been avoiding doing them for a while now as they have failed to comply after several warnings.
Force India deny that there is anything to worry about but with the Stefan GP outfit seemingly kitting up to take any vacant slot on the grid they should be concerned. If they can’t compete at a GP for any reason then they can be pushed out and someone can take [...]
