BMW Sauber
BMW Sauber are really just Sauber again, with BMW withdrawing from F1 at the end of 2009 Peter Sauber couldn’t just let his old team disappear so he’s back in control and they can go racing in 2010 with the withdrawal of Toyota.
The Car
The C29 was designed by BMW really and they poured a lot of effort into it given that their 2009 car was such a dog. The pre-season testing seems to show that it looks good, much better than most would have expected. Perhaps it may achieve something this year.
The Drivers
Sauber have signed Pedro de la Rosa the veteran McLaren tester to drive one of their cars this year and at least in testing he seems to be on the pace. As the season unfolds we’ll have to see if he’s still got that racing edge. His team mate definitely has that edge, Kamui Kobayahsi was one of the most exciting driver we saw last year when he replaced the injured Timo Glock. I pleased to see him on the grid and will watch with interest how he fares, especially if the car is good.
Extra details
Peter Sauber describes himself a reluctant owner, I guess he thought he was out of F1, I’d be surprised if that is the case once he’s got back into racing. As a team owner he started the careers of Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa so maybe Kamui Kobayashi will be another.
