Renault
Last year was hard for Renault, not only did they not get any where on the track they had to deal with the year’s dose of contraversy. They weathered the race fixing scandal relatively well I thought – I guess acting quickly worked.
The Car
The car in it’s new livery hasn’t impressed hugely in pre-season testing but then Robert Kubica didn’t last year but he still doled out a heating to Nick Heidfeld. It remains to be seen if all the management changes at Renault over the last year will have had an effect of the engineering team. The new livery is striking itself and marks a departure from the days of 2005/6 so perhaps they have put them behind them and are working harder than ever.
The Drivers
With both last years drivers on their way out they have signed Robert Kubica the impressive Pole who found himself without a seat after BMW stopped their F1 programme and Vitaly Petrov the sports first Russian driver. There is some uncertainty around what he brings to the team in terms of skills and money but it seems clear that he’s set to play the supporting role to Kubica this year.
Extra Details
Renault sold a huge stake of the team during the closed season to an investment firm, is it the first steps to withdrawing? I don’t know but the team need to perform this year.
