Toro Rosso

Last year wasn’t exactly stellar for Toro Rosso they could have done with some better reliability, but they kept at it and this year they have their own car rather than a Red Bull hand me down so we should see what they can do themselves. There are some rumours around that the reason for this engineering change is the will at Red Bull to sell the Toro Rosso team but in this climate I can’t see anyone putting up the cash for the team.

The Car

So it’s the first car that has been designed at Toro Rosso for a few years and so far so good, it’s faster than the Red Bull in pre-season testing and has done some pretty good laptimes. Time will tell whether the testing pace is real but it shows what they can do. With a Ferrari engine in the back they’ve got the horsepower to do something with too.

The Drivers

Toro Rosso keep the same driver lineup that they had at the end of last year with Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari so the team should be pretty settled going in to the 2010 season. Niether driver has set the grid on fire but both have driven the car well so with a little more experience they may turn out to be decent drivers, with so little experience on the grid this year in terms of rookies this will no doubt be valuable to Toro Rosso.

Extra Information

Having risen out of the Minardi ashes the team has done well for itself, now that it’s more independant of the main Red Bull squad we’ll have to see what the reasons for that were.
