US F1
US F1 were another of the new entries for the 2010 season, formed partly by Peter Windsor from F1 racing the team is based in the US with an aim to showcase American technology and will hopefully compete in the first GP at the season. The team applied to the FIA to defer their entry until the 2011 season but this has now been refused and they have confirmed that they won’t make the grid.
The Car
The car was to be built by US F1, not a customer car like the Campos Meta/HRT team and was set to use the same Cosworth engines that all of the new teams are using. It seems that they could build the car in time and get it through the FIA crash tests.
The Drivers
With Jose Maria Lopez confirmed as a race driver for the year it didn’t look like they were able able to attract much talent. With an ambition to use all american talent it seems that they have severly limited their market – I guess Scott Speed would have been around if they needed him. Now that the team has withdrawn it seems that Lopez will have to find some other way of getting into F1 – hopefully he didn’t lose his money.
Extra Information
With reasonable investment behind them they hadn’t been hounded by financial worries compared to Campos Meta but it seems that they could pull it all together in the end, it was a sad end to the US F1 dream. It remains to be seen what they do this year now.
